RMR vs Centr vs RoxPrep — Who Each Is Actually For
An honest look at three approaches to HYROX preparation. We include ourselves in this comparison—and we're explicit about where we fit and where we don't.
Why This Comparison Exists
When athletes search for HYROX training options, they encounter a confusing landscape. Some platforms focus on running periodization. Others offer general fitness with HYROX elements. Others (like us) focus on readiness assessment.
These aren't competitors in the traditional sense—they serve different needs. The question isn't “which is best?” but “which is best for you?”
Our commitment: This comparison is honest. We praise competitors where they deserve it. We acknowledge our own gaps. We believe athletes are better served by clarity than by marketing.
The Three Approaches
Running Method Redefined (RMR)
Running-first HYROX preparation
Best for:
Runners adding HYROX to their repertoire
Strengths
- Excellent running periodization
- Strong community and coaching support
- Proven track record with endurance athletes
- Well-structured progressive programs
Gaps
- Station-specific preparation is secondary
- Less focus on functional fitness background
- May underserve athletes weak in strength stations
If you come from a running background and want to add HYROX, RMR is a natural fit. The running foundation is strong, and the HYROX-specific work builds on that base.
Centr
Celebrity-backed general fitness
Best for:
General fitness enthusiasts curious about HYROX
Strengths
- High production quality
- Broad fitness content library
- Accessible entry point for beginners
- Strong brand recognition
Gaps
- Not HYROX-specific by design
- Less race-focused periodization
- May not prepare for race-specific demands
Centr is excellent for general fitness and has HYROX-adjacent content. If you want broad fitness with some HYROX exposure, it works. If you want race-specific preparation, look elsewhere.
RoxPrep
Readiness-first race preparation
Best for:
HYROX-registered athletes wanting clarity on race readiness
Strengths
- Explicit readiness diagnosis (not just workouts)
- Station-by-station gap analysis
- Fatigue and injury-aware recommendations
- Designed specifically for HYROX race structure
Gaps
- Newer platform, smaller content library
- Less community infrastructure (currently)
- Adaptive training still in development
RoxPrep answers a different question: not “what should I do?” but “am I actually ready?” It complements training programs rather than replacing them.
Who Should Use What
If you're a runner first
RMR makes sense. Your running base is strong; you need structured HYROX-specific work layered on top. The running periodization will feel familiar.
If you want general fitness with HYROX exposure
Centr works well. High production quality, broad content library, accessible entry point. Just understand it's not race-specific preparation.
If you want to know whether you're actually ready
RoxPrep answers this question. We diagnose readiness gaps, identify late-race breakdown risk, and tell you what to prioritize. We complement training programs—we don't replace them.
These Are Complements, Not Competitors
The best HYROX preparation often combines approaches:
- •Use RMR or another training program for structured workouts
- •Use RoxPrep to assess whether that training is translating to race readiness
- •Adjust based on what the readiness assessment reveals
A training program tells you what to do. A readiness assessment tells you if what you're doing is working. Both are valuable.
